Why I’m building Elysium
I couldn’t find the place I wanted to live.So I’m building it.
Elysium is for people doing the most important work of their lives — founders, artists, athletes, operators — built on a simple belief: the right house, the right eight people, and everything else handled completely changes what you’re capable of.
Get the foundation right and the rest gets easier — the work, the friendships, the version of you that’s been waiting for the room to do it in. That’s the whole reason this place exists.
— Shaiden Valentine, Founder

The Great Room
Long table for twenty. A grand piano someone’s always about to play. A 200-inch cinema screen. A stage that gets used more than you’d guess.
Open plan into the kitchen, so you can be on a call from one end while breakfast is happening at the other. The room handles it.

Open 24/7
The Kitchen
The Chef
Cooks three meals a day, plus whatever you want at 2am. Indonesian mostly, but he can pivot — when someone arrives jet-lagged and just wants pasta and red sauce, he gets it.
Snacks, drinks, fresh fruit, cold-pressed juice — kitchen open 24/7. Produce comes from the local market most mornings. If you want to come along, just ask.
The Suites
The eight member suites are identical — same size, same fixtures, same view. You don’t compete for the better room. They’re all the better room.

The Eight
Eight identical suites, each with its own name. Pulled from old languages — states of becoming, places of work.

A day
Not a schedule. A rhythm. Some days you do all of it, some days you skip half — that’s the point.

Yoga on the rooftop, before sunrise.
Breakfast at the long table — eggs from the local farm, fresh fruit, coffee.
Deep work on the terrace, your suite, or the coworking lab — wherever lands.
An hour with the masseuse. Most days you didn't think you needed it. You always did.
Lunch with whoever's around. Fresh mangoes if you're lucky.
Scooter to Pererenan beach. Twelve minutes.
Cold plunge, three minutes. Sauna after.
Rooftop with the rest of the house. Valley turning gold.
Dinner. However many residents showed up. The chef's cooking.
Cinema, music room, or your suite — your call.
Firepit. The conversations you came for.
Bed. Suite blackout. Best sleep you've had in months.
The rhythm
Elysium runs on rhythm. Sunrise yoga most days, long lunches most afternoons, music or cinema most evenings. Pick what you want, skip what you don’t. Nothing is required, everything’s on offer.
Monday
Each month
01
The First
The 1st of every month: one night to welcome the residents moving in and send off the ones moving on. Music, fire, the whole house and friends. This is where you stop being new — usually before dessert.
02
Founder's dinner
Shaiden cooks (or pretends to) and the table is one long line. Everyone in residence. No phones.
03
Deep-work week
One week a quarter, the social calendar goes silent. Just meals, movement, and your work.
04
Open week
One week a quarter, residents can invite a partner or close collaborator to stay alongside them.
The Bali around us
The house manager maintains the shared calendar. Sign up for what you want, ignore the rest. The driver takes us, the chef preps for the day.
Philosophy
Most people spend their whole lives climbing Maslow’s pyramid. Food, safety, belonging, respect — and only after all that, if there’s any energy left, the work they were actually put here to do.
Elysium flips it. Levels one through four are baked into the architecture, the staff, the operations. You don’t spend your stay surviving. You spend it self-actualizing.
01
Physiological
Food, water, sleep, shelter.
The chef cooks all day. Kitchen's open 24/7. Filtered water, snacks, juice. King beds, real linens, silent A/C, blackout drapes. You're never going to think about any of this twice.
02
Safety
Secure space, healthcare, stability.
NFC + biometric locks. The house manager has a doctor on speed dial, the driver's on call. Insurance, operational reserves, professional management — you're covered, all the way down.
03
Love & belonging
Community, conversation, connection.
Eight people picked for fit. Long table at every meal. The kind of friendships that come from sharing a kitchen for weeks — not the kind you fake at networking events.
04
Esteem
Respect, recognition, peer regard.
Everyone here is doing real work. You're surrounded by people who get it. Studio time, podcast lab, workshops. Your work matters here — and people will tell you so.
05
Self-actualization
The reason you came.
The book. The album. The next company. The version of yourself that's been waiting for the right room. This is the level Elysium is built to unlock — and the only one that's still up to you.
We handle the first four. You handle the fifth.
That’s the whole thesis. The ∞ — closed loop, infinite room inside — is what self-actualization looks like when everything else is finally out of the way.
The Staff
Four full-time roles we’re hiring through 2027 to run the house. Names and details are indicative until staffed — the real team appears here on arrival.
Chef
hiring 2027
Three meals a day, plus whatever you want at 2am. Indonesian at heart, happy to make pasta for the jet-lagged. Shops the local market most mornings — come along if you like.
Masseuse
hiring 2027
Classical Balinese technique, on-site daily. Most people land on a late-afternoon slot and keep it for the whole stay.
Driver
hiring 2027
On call from early. Knows the roads, the shortcuts, and which ceremony is about to close one. Checks the surf before you do.
House Manager
hiring 2027
Runs the house. Reservations, recommendations, repairs, the boat for Saturday. First person you meet, last one you see.
What’s included
A full-time masseuse and treatment tech lives at the house, and a barber comes in monthly. Nothing here is an upsell — it’s part of living at Elysium.
The Zen Spa
A treatment room built for one thing: you, restored.
Not a corner with a folding table. A dedicated zen spa room — quiet, warm, purpose-built — where every treatment happens. A space given over entirely to feeling and looking your best.
01 · The barber
A barber comes to the house once a month.
Cut, beard, line-up — whatever you need, booked into your day. You never leave the property.
02 · Unlimited massage
A full-time masseuse, on-site and yours.
Book her as often as you like — daily, twice a day, whenever you want it. No session count, no add-on charge. Classical Balinese technique.
03 · While you work
Fifteen minutes, without leaving your screen.
Head scratch, back scratch, shoulders, feet. She comes to you mid-deep-work — the reset you didn't schedule and always needed.
04 · Mani, pedi & facial
Once a month with our treatment tech.
Hands, feet, face — all handled on-site. Same person who runs the massage table. She can do anything.
The Residents
Founders building real companies. Operators and investors. Artists, athletes, writers with real work in front of them. People who’ve done something worth doing — and aren’t done.
Every resident gets approved individually, for the cohort in residence at the time they’d be here. No waitlist, no quota, no automated yes. We read every application, and we say no a lot more than we say yes.
This isn’t a hotel you book. It’s a house you join.
Who lives here
Composites — representative of who Elysium attracts, not real residents. Names and faces are illustrative; the actual community lives in the member portal. Filter by craft to picture who you’d share the long table with.
The actual community in any given month depends on who applied and got in. We approve every resident individually, with the rest of the current cohort in mind.

Fuel is the only thing not included — billed at cost, settled monthly.
Access
The whole property runs on NFC. Pick the form you actually want — phone, watch, ring, bracelet, pendant, key card. They all work everywhere on the property.
iPhone in Apple Wallet
Add your Elysium key to Apple Wallet on day one. Tap your phone at the front door, the suite, the pool gate. Works in low-power mode and even when the battery's dead — Apple's Express Mode keeps it alive for hours.
Apple Watch
Same key, on your wrist. Tap. Done.
Android · Elysium app
Add your key in the Elysium app. Tap your phone, same as iOS. NFC tap or BLE proximity unlock.
NFC ring
Brushed-titanium ring with embedded NFC chip. Tap your hand at any reader. Comes with the founding cohort. Sized at arrival.
NFC bracelet
Black leather, brass clasp. The chip is hidden in the buckle. Holds up in the pool, the sauna, and the surf.
NFC pendant
Discreet brass pendant on a leather cord. For when a ring or bracelet isn't your thing.
Classic key card
If you'd rather just have a card, you can have a card. It works exactly like the rest.
Biometric backup
Fingerprint reader at the front door as a backup. So if you've ever locked yourself out of a hotel room, the answer here is: you haven't.
What it opens
Permissions live in the Elysium app — you grant guests, dial back access for a contractor, lock yourself out of the gym at 11pm if that’s the kind of week you’re having. Your call.
The Place

8°38'S · 115°08'E
Seseh is the quieter edge of Canggu — and Elysium sits back in the jungle, about ten minutes inland from the sand. Real rice fields, real roosters in the morning. But the studios, cafés, longevity clinics, surf breaks, and a creative city are all under twenty minutes away.
Focus when you need it. The scene when you want it.
A private helipad sits five minutes from the house — effortless transfers anywhere in Bali, or out to the surrounding islands, without the airport-road grind.
Down the street · Nuanu Creative City
Nuanu is the most interesting thing to happen to Bali in a decade — a 44-hectare district built around art, wellness, and nature near Tanah Lot. It’s basically Elysium’s extended campus.
Member rates
Residents get discounted rates across Nuanu — Omni, Luna, the spa — plus the local restaurants, gyms, and studios we work with. The house manager keeps the list current and books it for you.
The Setting
Elysium sits deep in the jungle on land we refused to flatten. The natural features of the property became part of the design — and that’s why this place feels different the moment you walk in.

01
The cliff
A 12-metre escarpment runs the full length of the property. The main pavilion sits at the top of it. The lower deck steps down into the canopy. The land does most of the architectural work.
02
Three waterfalls
Three waterfalls drop off the eastern edge into the garden below. Roaring in the wet season, gentle the rest of the year — you'll fall asleep to them either way.
03
Banyan trees
The property is wrapped in old banyans — sacred in Bali. The largest is older than the road that gets you here. We built around them, never through.

Why Bali
They call it the island of the gods, and you feel why the moment you land — a kind of pure magic that’s almost impossible to explain to anyone who hasn’t stood in it.
It’s where I’ve watched my own productivity, peace, health, and sense of connection climb in ways nowhere else has come close to. After a decade of searching, it’s my favourite place on earth — the one I kept returning to, and finally stopped leaving. In my view, the best place in the world to become who you’re capable of being.
So when it came time to build the first Elysium, there was never really a question of where. This is where I want people to do the best work — and live the best months — of their lives.
And an island that gives this much deserves to be cared for.
— Shaiden Valentine, Founder
Giving back
Bali gives us everything — the land, the people, the way of life. Giving back isn’t a line on a brochure here; it’s built into the month, and it runs all year.
One day a month
Volunteer day.
One day every month, the whole house steps out together to give back — beach cleanups, time at local orphanages, hands-on community projects. It’s never required, but nearly everyone comes. More residents than not call it their favourite day of the month.
01
Beach & river cleanups
The Seseh shoreline and the rivers that run through our village — cleared by hand, together.
02
Time at local orphanages
Hours with the kids, not just cheques. Presence is the point.
03
Direct donations
Straight to the village and the causes closest to where we live.
Year-round
A full-time village crew.
Beyond the monthly day, Elysium employs a full-time crew that keeps our village’s rivers clear and Seseh beach clean — every day, not just when we show up. It’s the least we can do for a place that gives us this much.
How it works
What you pay. What’s included. How to apply. What happens once you’re in. No fluff.
One number, all in. No nightly rates, no resort fees, no extras at checkout.
Two ways to stay. Take it month by month, or buy the year up front and use the twelve months whenever you like — three weeks now, a fortnight in spring, six weeks in winter. The block doesn’t expire.
01
You apply.
Nine questions. Ten minutes. Written, not interviewed — we read them properly.
02
We read.
Decisions move in two-week cycles. We're looking for fit with the community in residence at the time you'd be there. That's the only criterion.
03
An invitation, or not.
If we say yes, you receive a private link to the resident portal. From there you choose a suite, dates, and start a conversation with the house manager.
04
You arrive.
Usually for a month, at first. Most residents extend. Some stay six months. A few stay a year and become part of the house.
Why a month
Shorter than that and it’s just another trip — you never drop your shoulders, never stop being a guest, and the people around you stay a blur of faces. Much longer and the life you left starts to fade. A month to a season is the sweet spot: long enough to sink in, short enough to stay sharp.
This is slow travel, not constant motion. You unpack once. The chef learns how you take your coffee, the masseuse keeps your slot, and eight near-strangers turn into people you’ll fly back to see.
Every cohort turns over on the 1st — which is exactly why the 1st is a party.
What “everything” means
Built for your health
Whole-house water filtration and softening on every tap and shower — so the water you drink, cook with, and wash in is clean and gentle on your skin and hair. We solved the Bali water question before anything else.
Smart air purifiers run in every indoor space and suite, and the whole house is built from non-toxic finishes and healthy, eco-friendly materials. You breathe well, sleep well, and never think about any of it.
House policy
This isn’t a rule we enforce — it’s the entire point. It changes the mornings, the conversations, who shows up, who comes back. The whole community works because of it.
If that’s a deal-breaker, no hard feelings — Elysium just isn’t the place for you. Easier to know now.
Selection
You’re building something real — a company, a body of work, a craft, a life that requires actual focus. We’re looking for people who’ll add to the room, not just be in it.
Fit matters more than CV. We pick for the cohort that’ll be in residence with you. The application is the start of the conversation.
Questions
1 Gbps symmetric fibre to every suite. Starlink failover for the days the cable goes down — and it does, in Bali. You can be on calls all day, every day, without thinking about it.
Whole-house diesel generator with auto-failover. Battery UPS on every critical circuit — workstations, internet, kitchen cold storage — so a brownout doesn't drop your meeting.
Not here. The whole house runs on advanced filtration and softening — every tap and every shower. The water you drink, cook with, brush your teeth with, and wash your hair in is clean and soft. It was one of the first things we engineered.
We'll introduce you to the KITAS agent we work with. Most residents enter on a B211A (six-month social/visit visa). Longer stays use KITAS. We don't sponsor visas, but the agent does this work every day and gets it right.
Every suite has a pull-out sleeper for an occasional guest. Short visits — a weekend, a week — are part of how the house works. Anyone staying longer than two weeks needs to be approved as their own resident.
Elysium is an adult residence. The eight residents come for deep work, training, recovery — the rhythm doesn't accommodate kids in the house. We can recommend nearby family-friendly villas if you're travelling with family and want to visit during the day.
No pets. Bali's import rules for animals are punishing, and the open-plan design of the house doesn't work for cats or dogs.
Every suite has a private balcony — that's where most people take calls. The workstation is walled off from the bed and the lounge. The Great Room and rooftop are open plan; for deep-focus work, the suite is the answer.
Residencies are typically booked in month-long blocks. Specific refund and rebooking terms are in the residency agreement — discuss with us before your dates lock in.
Then we say so the moment it happens — in the journal, and to every confirmed resident directly. Founding-member pre-book reservations are fully refundable at any point before move-in. We won't open a house that isn't ready.

The Founder
Shaiden Valentine
I’ve spent five years running co-living communities and five years inside the best hotels in the world. Elysium is what I built when I couldn’t find a place that did both.
Co-living gets community right and operations wrong. Five-star hotels nail the operations and miss the community completely. Nobody was doing both for the people who actually need both — founders, operators, artists, athletes who’d outgrown retreat centres and hotel residences and wanted something real.
Every choice in Elysium comes from years of watching what works and what doesn’t. No best practices borrowed from brochures. No vibes inherited from somewhere else.
From co-living
Real friendships. Long stays. The conversations only people who’ve shared a kitchen for weeks ever have.
From five-star hotels
Operational excellence. Trained staff. The thing you need showing up before you knew you needed it.
The Build
Elysium opens in 2028. The ground is already broken. Nizar is already on site. Every month, we write about where things stand. Not the polished version. The real one — what’s hard, what’s changed, what we learned this week.

The future
One Elysium in the most desirable corners of the world — each the same standard, the same kind of people, the same everything-handled life. The long-term idea is simple: spend your block wherever you want it. A season in Bali, a month in Cape Town, a few weeks in Ibiza — same membership, same key.

The whole house
Some months ask for the whole house. A founding team that wants to build in one place. A studio mid-sprint. People who’d rather spend the next month — or the next three — under one roof than scattered across time zones.
Take all nine suites and Elysium is yours. Your hacker house, your retreat, your training camp — whatever the month is for. The staff stay; the rhythm bends to your work instead of the house’s.
Everything handled
01
The days
Tell our concierge what the month should feel like — deep work, training, ceremony, escape — and they build the calendar around it. Surf at dawn, a waterfall on Wednesday, a private dinner the night something ships. You approve it; we run it.
02
The table
The chef cooks for your people the way he cooks for residents — three meals a day, plus whatever anyone wants at 2am. Send him your preferences before you land and the kitchen is already yours by the time you arrive.
03
The record
If you want the month to outlast the month, we bring in videographers we trust here in Bali. They shoot around your stay and cut it into something you can use — a film, a set of edits, whatever the work needs. You leave with more than the memory.
One house, one team, one month. We’ll make it run.
Whole-house residencies start at a month and are arranged directly with us, subject to the calendar. Tell us who’s coming and what it’s for, and we’ll take it from there.
